"The Friendliest Town in Germany"

Many times everyday you will hear "Guten Tag" or "Danke" while in Aschaffenburg. Why are the people in this area so friendly? It has been this way for many, many years; back before the conflicts of the past century almost destroyed this lovely place. The friendly nature of the locals has remained the same and has been written about in some travel books.  It is not just my bias speaking here, but also what I have read about this town's hospitality in travel books.

Regardless of the past, the people have seen fit to restore the downtown area to its traditional appearance. Now after many years of work, there are traditional cobblestone streets and lanes; half-timbered buildings and houses in the pedestrian zone. The shopping streets and lanes have flowers, lamps and fountains. The beauty of its parks has been written about and you have seen the magnolias in full bloom.

My memories from the mid-50's and the 1990's, are alike. They are mostly of the happy, hardworking, honest, and hospitable people I have met there. I think Aschaffenburg is the friendliest town in Germany. If you spend an evening there strolling around the downtown pedestrian zone and socializing with the folks, you will see what I mean.

Aschaffenburg is often overlooked by tourists coming to Germany. Maybe it is too close to Frankfurt. Anyway, Aschaffenburg is off the beaten path and is less expensive than the usual tourist stops. Two good reasons to make this town your starting point when you arrive and your rest stop before departure. Most of all Aschaffenburg will become a special place for you. I am sure.
