King Ludwig 1 called Aschaffenburg his "Bavarian Nice". The imposing landmark, the mighty castle "Schloss Johannisburg" and the "Pompejanum" - a Roman Villa rebuilt of plans discovered in Pompeii - are only two of the many examples for the long and rich history of this town.
